Stacking them to Hold

Wed Dec 09, 2015 5:55 pm

Question

I know forces marching to the Sound of the Guns do not benefit from entrenchments. But, if the defending force is inside a structure, say a stockade, redoubt or a fort, will any additional defending forces arriving, via Marching to the Sound of the Guns, also benefit from the structure's defensive value?

In other words, will all the defender's frontage be as clear terrain and the attacker has 25% less?
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth.

From the Wiki:

"When a stack succeeds its march, it participates in this round of battle as if it was in the region where the battle takes place, but it does not actually move there. The stack does not suffer any river-crossing penalties, but on the other hand, it doesn’t profit from any entrenchment levels either."

I suppose this would mean that a MTSG force would not gain anything from the stockade/fort/etc.

Taking a step back, you are talking about a battle in a structure correct? (As in, the enemy controls the region and is attacking besieged little you inside the region's structure.) I'm not sure a friendly stack in the next region over would even MTSG, because the combat is happening in the regional structure, not in the region itself.

pgr,

That is what I think too, that MTSG does not occur for forces inside structures. I have never seen it, but I can't say 100% because I haven't ever tried it.

My experience with many assaults by Athena is that the attacker gets hammered and then the relief force moves in for the kill. I don't need to MTSG.

Again, a fort type structure only holds 25 elements. A line of forts would not need to be a line of Corps to stop an invader cold in his tracks. I use a few Divisions in strongpoints as a screen and keep a large reserve to maneuver around the mostly stuck enemy and trap him or just counterattack against a spent force.

Most AACW vets think that any force in a structure will just surrender. This will only happen 5% of the time if they have a depot full of supplies and a Supply Wagon for the 10% combat boost.
