Moving Capital

Sat Apr 18, 2015 4:24 pm

Mid 1864 pbem (1861 April Full Campaign), CSA vs Athena, and I've been noticing the move capital option is not available. At first I thought perhaps a blocked RR was the cause (as with the new teleport general dynamic) but that does not seem to be the case. This option showed up early on--I'm wondering if there is some new time-frame or limitation on this.

I hadn't looked into it before, but unless I've missed it neither side can move their capital anymore; that is except the AI under certain a specific conditions.

Oh.

I've seen it moved by Athena in a recent AAR, and I also noted it was an option in my game early on... then it disappeared. I'm hoping it will be reinstated.

Does it go away if the cites you could move to are taken?

I lost Atlanta once in this game but there should still be the other two even so.

I notice they corrected the capital for Alabama from Mobile to Montgomery, and since I have a clear RR from Richmond to either it should be available. It's a good option to have for the CSA and historical inasmuch as Davis certainly would have transferred the capital south in 1865 with Richmond about to fall--were it not for Sherman taking Charleston and cutting all routes south.

As I said I find no player-option allowing for moving the capital for either side, going back to my oldest test installation which is ver. 1.04 RC4.

If anybody wants to look for themselves, the AI's move-capital options are in '..\CW2\Events\OptionsGov_July61.sct'.

The game vs AI is now in mid 1864 (playing CSA) and there has been no move capital option for a few years; that said however, it was available back in May 1861 as you can see:

Okay, I found it. It's set in one of the '..\CW2\Includes\OptionsTO_*.inc' files, depending on which scenario you are playing. The file I noted above controls it for the AI and regenerates use options, such as printing money, etc.

But as far as I've been able to find it only gets turned off if it has been used, so I have no idea why you don't have it in your game now.

I have a 1.05 file into 1865 and the option is still available to the CSA...
