Sabotaging the CSA rail network

Sun Jan 19, 2014 7:17 am

I am under the impression that Schurtz and his small cavalry detachment can go completely unnoticed (and that is realistic and accurate given its mobility and little size) in North Virginia and by the border with West Virginia, while sabotaging one rail network after the other.

I am now in Late October 61 and I've had to come back for resupply once, all the time from the moment Schurtz spawned 'till now, he's been sabotaging railways completely unchecked.

Not only did not CSA AI repair the rails but I haven't seen CSA cavalry detachments on patrol, at least trying to intercept Schurtz.

I was wondering if something could be done about this issue. CSA shouldn't let me do that so easily (by now Schurtz has grown into a division sized force).

Unfortunately it's a weakness of the AI, I don't know if the developpers will be able to do something to improve her (don't forget it's name is Athena ;) ) behavior.

If an areas development is good, rails will self repair. If you are destroying rails in the Shenandoah Valley and in West Virginia it would likely suit the south just fine. Slowing Union advances in this area may just be what they are looking for.

But the battle at Manassas hasn't taken place yet and if those rails are not repaired Johnston will be unable to support Beuregard. This means Beauregard will be dislodged, the opposite of what happened at 1st Bull Run. That rail from Winchester can't be left unrepaired. Actually I think it would be a good idea if Johnston was "pinned" to help Beuregard until the "press" event has expired.

Manassas mustn't fall.

Hate to say it, my good man, but I would bet you are talking about the RR in the Clarke region, and Yes, this is a well-worn tactic in this area of NoVa.

Early Cav is inhibited, at the least, from Easy RR Destruction in CW2, AFAIK. Been doing the same exact thing myself - but no rippin' up of rails. AFAIK, it may well be impossible, or nearly so, for Early Cav to do this.
