Building industry as Union player?

Does it anybody? At all?

Never had any shortage of war supplies w/o building industry when not building a massive navy.
Another reason for building industry would be generating additional money. Does it generate? Enough to make up the cost?

I did a fair amount of expansion and I'm swimming in money and war material. I did a full round the first available and when it came available again I did two more. It definitely has helped. I don't know how much extra money I have received cause I spent it all, but I have about 6000 in war material.
