Anyone Know How to Fix The Leader Abilities?

Thu Sep 19, 2013 6:16 pm

I really want to start an new campaign, but I'd rather not have Jackson, Forrest and others have screwed up leader abilities. Rumor has it that the error is in the Alias files. Ace posted this earlier:

Beside the model files, abilities are set by alias files as well.

search alias directory for text string abiCharismatic

result: 2 matches
one in abi_alias as expected
one in Abilities Kind

These files should be moded if you do not wish to wait for the patch.

That's a good start but doesn't really tell me exactly how to mod the Alias files. Help?

I think it would be pretty hard to fix using the available files. Better regenerated from the Excel files which is probably where the error is that needs to be corrected. Both Forrest and Jackson have the genius thing which gives them more abilities in total so thats an extra complication.
Hopefully not to long to wait

OK. Do they really have to beta test that? Seems like a typo they could fix with a hotfix.

It seems silly to have start a campaign with the leaders screwed up.

I hope we're not seeing a repeat of the "fix one thing, break two things" routine we went through with AACW.

I doubt it, I don't think the display of the abilities is in the code as such, rather its in the DB, hopefully they have that sorted already.
AACW was released in 2007 and expanded to an amazing extent but probably to its limit, the new engine should have more capacity and I suspect may be easier for modders (judging by the generals portraits aspect anyway).
I like what I've seen so far (apart from the wavy flags :blink :)

I like what I've seen too. Just being a bit of a curmudgeon about the leader stats. AACW more than worked out all the kinks on this issue, and it's just a head scratcher to see them botch such a simple copy job. I know it's just a typo somewhere, but geez.

I was not very clear in previos post. The error was that the name Charismatic was used in two different alias files for two different things, confusing the engine in the process. The designers changed the name of the trait to CharismaticLeader instead. I have tried to mod this in 1.00. version by changing this name in abi_alias file, as well as in model file and the name of ability in the abilities folder. I did not succeed, there is obviously more to it than just correcting this typo. Anyway, it is fixed in beta version, it doesn't need to be tested. We are testing now some other things. Obviously, patch contains more fixes than just Jackson and Forrest ability fix, for example, AI is behaving much more rationally in beta version we are currently testing.
Have patience :)
Cheers!

Actually, the Alias files in CW2 appear to be set up exactly like those in PON and AACW with respect to the Charismatic ability. So the double reference shouldn't have been a problem unless they made a change somewhere else. Sounds like they did. Just wish they'd tell us where so we could fix it without waiting on a patch.

No other choice apparently. But "patience" in this instance means playing something else in the meantime, which is frustrating. Not a great way to launch a new game.

You can start the game with these abilities and then with the patch the leaders will be updated. Know that you won't have to endure for the full war these typos... Is it enough for you to play the game?

Sure. Just being a grouch.

BUT, is it fixable without waiting for the patch - by me, I mean? If it's just a typo or two in game files, it would be nice to know which ones to fix and how. Thanks.
