Division Commanders

Please explain how division commanders work. I have three armies with 5 or six generals in each army. Do I make all but the highest general all division commanders? If you make a general a division commander, do I detach him from the army stack, and add troops to his stack?

Click on the leader, then on the tent icon near him. In the choices that brings
up look and see if the XX is lit up. If it's before October 61 it won't be, but if
after you then click on that, enabling their divisional status. The, holding down
the control key you select that commander, and each one of the troops you want
in his division. A + will lite up and if it stops being lit you've reached capacity,
deselect elements until it lites back up again, then press the + button - voila,
you have a division. Who you pick to lead a division depends on their abilities
and attributes.

Great explanation, DrPostman! I would only add that after October '61 the General must be active to form a Division.
