Army Command Modifier

Mon Nov 10, 2014 7:32 pm

So I was looking around on the Agewiki page to refresh my memory on how leaders influence combat.... to wit:

The fire formula:
RFP*TQM*AM*TCM*PM*EM*WTM*AAM*SupM*CM*HM*FMM*RoEM*PaM*OCM*Coeff

"TCM= Total Command Modifier: 1+(relevant stackleader rating*0,05*(1-out of command penalty/100)+relevant unitleader rating*0,03)-(the respective ratings of the enemies commanders) The TCM can't be lower than 1 for the firing element (So your hitchance won't get worse through command penalties, but you'll be more likely to be hit if undercommanded)."

Example Equation: Attacker: Stackleader:Offensive 4, Unitleader: Offensive 2. Defender Stackleader: Defensive 2 No unitleader. The stack suffers a command penalty of 15%.

So: 1+(4*0.05+2*0.03)-(0.1-0.15)=1.26+0.05 = 1.31
(Again all above is taken from the AgeWiki)

So I was wrapping my head around the math, and then I thought to myself... where is the Army Commander? It looks like the TCM is a stack level calculation, corps. So in a multiple corp battle, how does the over-all commander (the army leader) impact combat? Is it indirect (as in an army commander's stats will boost his corps and division leader stats), or is there another level of direct impact in the TCM calculation?

AFAIK it is boosted stats only.

Right, looking at the old battlelog (the new patch suppressed some of the clarity), the unit commander (the general in command of a brigade or division) and the stack commander (in charge of the stack) are included, but the army commander is not. The Army commander does, as ArmChairGeneral says, effect the statistics of the corps commanders - one of whom will be the relevant stack commander.

I guess this would also explain why after big battles, the Division and Corps commanders tend to get more seniority boosts than my army commander (who I tend to keep in a very light stack...)

Do you fellas know what the bonus works out to? For sme reason my mind seems to thing bonus= army commander rating (offense or defense)-2

It is a buff to the Corps commander's stats that is a (somewhat) random portion of the Army general's stats. The Strategic rating the Army commander passes is higher than the Off or Def ratings that are passed (it is in the gamelogic file, though the actual formula is hard to understand). Average 3 stars (3-1-1) pass few if any bonuses, sometimes you will get a Strat bonus. The bonus CAN be negative if you have a low stst Army commander.

To see what each Corps commander is receiving this turn from the Army, hover over the (quite small) diamond at the top of the far right panel (the black panel with the supply kettle) when you have the Corps selected. If he is getting one extra Offense from the Army commander, this will result in an extra 5% in combat since he is the stack commander, as if his rating were one higher than normal. Usually they get a 0, 1 or -1 bumbp to a stat, but of course if he has a high rating (Grant, Lee, etc.) then it is higher more often. The Corps must be in range to receive it, and the diamond tooltip will indicate if the Corps is out of range. Corps commanders cannot not receive bonuses on the first turn the Corps is formed, but their stats are not nerfed like division commanders.

The bump to the Strat rating is more important, IMO, since it means that the Corps commanders are active much more often than if they were not attached to an Army.

AFAIK the Army commander is not in line to receive seniority unless his stack participates directly in the battle. Don't know for sure if MTSG counts as participation for promotion/seniority purposes, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

Think that was in AACW I, in CW II I didn't see that!

Select a corps so that it is displayed in the Stack Panel. To the right of the Stack Panel is the Element Detail Panel, with general information about the status of the stack. If you have a corps selected, in the center of of the top edge of the Element Detail Panel there will be the Corps Diamond, or rhombus. If you hold you mouse pointer over the diamond a tool-tip will tell you the strategic, offensive and defensive bonus or malus the corps receive this turn from the army commander.

This display doesn't work with 1.05 RC1.
I didn't see it in CWII, but it was in AACW in.

I'll have a look at it this evening.
