Few questions from a new player

Wed Feb 26, 2014 1:23 am

Hello everyone.

New player here, I dabbled in AACW but never got far, I am enjoying AACW2 so far, but have a few questions.

I pretty much exclusively play as the USA side, so my issues relate to commanding them effectively.

1.) How much navy is to much navy? I am currently only blockading at 25%, but seem to be spending a lot of my war supplies on blockade flotillas and another fleet assembling in Brooklyn with an aim at capturing New Orleans + forts.

Should I try "brown water" blockades? or just pick off the ports with land forces (Galveston, Charleston Savannah etc)

2.) Division making.................I don't know where to begin! I have so many brigades and regiments floating around, I am trying to consolidate, but it feels overwhelming at times. I know I am not going to be making ideal divisions, but how many would you suggest? I am swimming in cash and manpower. So I can build quite a bit. My main issue is losing track of all the brigades I recruit all over the map, and making them into effective units. (many brigades have say, cavalry regiments, so I end up with more than I need in a division)

How do you keep track of it all?

3.) How should I divide my forces. I am thinking a main army in VA, and another on the Mississippi. My Mississippi army will be smaller it looks like for now, but I'd really like to lock down the west asap. I also have significant forces in W. VA (the Confederacy is pushing it), as well as in Ohio and along the Kentucky border. Should I consolidate these into a larger force and try to secure all of kentucky?

4.) Should I bother further west? I am having some success in Missouri, sieging Rolla and.......another city I cannot remember now :D But I've largely ignored Arizona/NM/Colorado.

I suppose you could say my approach is rather...........British. I'd rather snag the periphery with campaigns and then aim for a big blow. Hence my desire to secure ports/forts early on and maybe knock chunks of the west out.

I know I am not going to gain the ground the USA historically did in 1862, thats for sure.

The best thing I can recommend is that you are in luck. There are a few threads here, quite current, that address your questions. I'm not dodging anything, just avoiding a small novel for a reply.
