New PBEM procedure - clarification, please?

Sat Sep 28, 2013 4:00 pm

OK, I got it that the Host simply sends the .HST file, no more .TRN. However, what might be the most efficient procedure? Send the .HST and the .ORD file(s) to the opponent, let him/her execute the turn which will create a new .HST, .ORD and of course the neutral factions .ORD (Indians) file? Somebody could shed some light on that, please?

Pages 12 and 13 in the manual outline PBEM play. It's quite simple. Just follow those instructions, works fine.

Unfortunately Kamerad, the manual still explains the old AACW procedure. There ain't any .TRN files anymore. It's now the .HST etc. I read somewhere, I think Philip mentioned it somewhere...

Thanks for the quick reply anyway; perhaps you also got surprised ^5.

Option 1) One of the players is always hosting : each turn he sends the .HST file to his opponent who send back his .ORD file.

Option 2) Both players are hosting : 1st player sends the .HST file and his .ORD file to his opponent who runs the turn and then sends the .HST and his .ORD files for the new turn to the first player who, in turn, will run the turn.

Option 3) Find a third party to host the game : he sends the .HST file to both opponents and get their .ORD file back.

Option 1 seems to me the most easiest, option 3 the most secure (not cheat) but more difficult to organize and with option 2 you have some risk to mix-up at some point.

Thank goodness for this thread. I spent hours trying to find the saves folder and the trn file. The manual is exactly like old AGEOD games, but does not explain that you need to find the file in the 'My Games" folder, and then which file to send. How crazy is this to do it all differently without explanation. Sorry, but so terribly confusing.

Also, how to I change the file name to make the name unique for different opponents?

Here's the procedure I discovered to change the name of a game. Start your game as usual. Once the game starts, go back to the main menu and go to the LOAD screen. Select the game you just created. In the upper right of the window a small button will appear. The tool tip on that button says it is a Saved game manipulation button. When you click that button, you are given three new buttons to delete the game, to restore a previous turn and lastly, you can rename the game. That's what I've been doing.

In regards to the hidden save folder, I got the following instruction from AGEOD support when I couldn't find my saved files. I had installed my game along the path E:/AGEOD/Civil War II but that path didn't have a SAVE directory in it. Technical support told me to delete the userpath.ini file that was located in the Civil War II directory and restart the game. When I did that, the SAVE folder appeared in it's proper location.

Hope some of this helps.

Worked, thank you. Such changes should be in manual. But this is a good forum where help is only moments away.

Wow, I would never have seen that button.

It seems like Mckey3D's solutions sum it up; option 2 is easiest if you simply copy the entire Save Game file and send it off; as for cheating - well, there may be a way to compare time stamps of the files you send versus what is cached in the backup file, but I am not interested enough to figure it out, and if I did, I would not be playing someone I had to worry about.
