Musterd is this a fancy way to say disbanded?

Tue Nov 05, 2013 11:53 pm

On two occassions the Rebels attacked a Garrison in a Stockade in the Far West, on both occassions my little Garrisons won the battle and the Rebs retreated. But I then got a message "Yada yada garrison in Fort Witchamalcallit has been mustered". Then the Garrison even though they took no battle losses disappaired. So they won, took no losses and got mustered out of existance? Whats up with that?

Sounds like your garrison was mustered, or conscripted, into Federal service. Whether or not that means the game engine removed the unit from play or incorporated them somewhere else, I don't know. Is there any way to tell if the unit appeared somewhere else under a different name?

It's the auto garrison feature kicking in. When a fort or town is besieged a garrison force is mustered, even if you already have a force there. They then take part in the battle and if the enemy leaves the region they are then disbanded. Look in the battle report, they appear there, you can see that more elements took part in the battle than you had in the region initially.
"Umbrellas will not be opened in the presence of the enemy." Duke of Wellington before the Battle of Waterloo, 1815.

"Top hats will not be worn in the Eighth Army" Field-Marshal Viscount Montgomery of Alamein K.G.

Ok thanks Ebbingford, it is astounding how much depth the game has, makes sense once you learn why that seemingly weird thing happened.

Then that string needs to be changed. A soldiers are "mustered into service" which means formed or raised, or a unit is "mustered out" which means disbanded or sent home. So "mustered" alone means nothing much...
