Hopefully you all will be able to help this noobi in getting a handle on CW2. if I can fly in EVE Online, surely I can learn this game on all it's levels. And I have not come close to mastering EVE either.
Just d/l the game and run thro the tuts several times. Being a typical guy, I jumped in and then started reading the manual.
I understand that corps and divisions cannot be formed until at least 10/61.
HOWEVER...
1. Playing the bluecoats, is reasonable to expect to build a reasonably strong army to deal with Johnston at the outset?
2. Are the divisions that I do build, attached to the army in any way to make the most of their CP? I'll admit I am still getting my head around the CP cost/provided issue.
3. Does it really matter that each naval block have it's own vessel assigned to it? The book seems to say that.
Appreciate all the help.

I would say that before divisions are formed, dealing with anyone that is close to you in size and even better is entrenched, will not end in your favor.
Taking Manassas for example you should try to threaten his line of communication and get him move away that way, if not possible take the NM hit and build up for a long war.

Before there is a Corps structure in place the only way to be part of the Army and its commander is being inside the army stack.
You can use an independent divisions with only 10% CP drop and you can take that away by giving the general an chief of staff officer or an signals unit etc..
Old wiki but should apply to this game also.

The off map boxes all need their own ships, they affect the blockade percentage of the box they are in.
You should give transports for your blockading ships so they can stay longer in the boxes before they need refit.
And combat ships as protection for your trading ships against CSA raiders.
But that is only the blue water blockade, you need to start building a navy to get the brown water blockade working, sitting ships in front of the CSA harbors to really cut of all traffic from them.
And this is important, you will really hit the CSA economy if you do the blockade well.
