Never played AGEOD series before. I've played Forge of Freedom and Hearts of Iron 3, both great games. Loved Hearts of Irons 3 interface for seeing command and control--chain of command. Giving this one a try. So quick question.
What's the best way to tell if a subordinate unit (Corp/Division) is under control of an Army. I know that if a "unit" ex. Corp or is subordinate it will flash red, but is there any other way?
Still trying to figure this all out!
Also how do I know if a unit is a division/Corp/Army?
In the Shiloh scenario for example I have a stack listed CSA Calvary. Are these "units" attached to higher command. Are they divisions/brigades/corps? Screen shot attached. Thanks for any help! I've been losing repeatedly which is a good sign I might enjoy this game! But off course I have no idea what I'm doing

You can know by leader and by whether or not the leader and his commander flash red when you select the leader.

Any division out of corps or army stack is considered detached from the chain of command. Any flashing corps within army command radius and every division/brigade inside the corps or army stack is in the chain of command.
In your screenshot, CSA cavalry is independent command unit.
If you look at the army outliner (A.S.Johnston face to the left of your screen, you'll see three bubbles to the left of his portrait. He is superior to 3 corps which are in his chain of command as long as they are in his command radius. To view command radius, hold shift while army stack is selected.

an army stack has a golden star on the tab representing it and also another golden star at the bottom right of the screen. If you mouse over this star, you will get the list of all subordinates corps.
A corps has a silver diamond.
You can also see armies with the army outliner, the hanging flags with portraits to your left. Clicking on a silver diamond will go to each corps.
Divisions are units, their name is in golden in the stack panel.

Clicking the silver-colored diamonds on the Army outliner is probably the fastest way to move between each Army's subordinate Corps.
Just think of Divisions as a 'container' with a general in charge of many regiments inside. It's there to cut down on CP costs but you don't necessarily have to put them inside Armies & Corps (although that utilizes their available CP to the utmost).
