Could any developer take a look at this?

Wed May 21, 2014 4:00 am

I have already posted on the technical support my problem with the game not counting some of my units in game, every time I build a guard corp or infantry corp from Germany the tooltip says I have 0 on the map so that I have 6 available to build, it only counts like "on the map" at the turn I build it, the next turn it resets the counting and the tooltip again says I have 0 Guard Corps "on the map" and 6 "available" to build. The problem, as I have already stated at the technical support forum quite some time ago, doesn't happen with all the units I have, but only with "german" guard corps and infantry H and L corps, it doesn't happen with regional corps, like bavarian infantry corps, and neither with division or brigade sized units of any tag.

The bug is strange and could lead me to have a completelly ahistorical game if I wanted to (GOD FORBID THAT!!! THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE VII! :mdr :) and lead me to stop building guard corps or infantry heavy and light corps, now I only build regional troops or divionion/brigade sized units to not feel like "cheating" and playing ahistorically.

If this isn't about coding I could solve the problem myself (as I did with the case of admiral Tirpitz having no portrait displayed), I just need to have a clue as to what files to edit etc.
Everyone who knows me here, like Kensai and Loki for instance (both have already helped me a lot, but in this case they don't seem to know how to solve the problem), knows that I love this game a lot, and really appreciate the effort to make an awesome game like this one, that requires a good deal of research etc, I respect all of this, I always try to help the users in the forum, giving the hints I can give, I'm deeply into this game and the scene, but I need a reply from the developers now, I need to know what's happening here and how to solve it because I really want to go on playing with the same enthusiasm I had some time ago.

I really hope I get a reply this time for all the reasons already stated, thank you for reading this appeal.

Cheers,
Daniel.

Hello Daniel,

We have no developer available to patch PON before Fall probably, unless we manage to produce a Public Beta patch in Summer, but don't hold your breath on that. I have just checked the code and I don't see how some units can be miscalculated while most of them are correct. I was thinking it can perhaps be because of the Guard Unit being upgraded somehow to another type, while on map, even if the elements within the unit remain the same (say you buy a 1870-Guard and it upgrades to 1890-Guard), so the 1870-Guard becomes available again in the pool.

Generally there is no such problem because when an unit can upgrade, a script removed the old type from the force pool. If this is not done, then you can buy a unit, wait for it to convert, this free up the force pool, rince & repeat. this might be that, and so this is a data-bug, not a code bug. Now, I'm not much into data, so perhaps veterans players/modders can help you there.

Cheers,
Pocus.

Daniel, I have not been able to replicate that error. But I haven't reached that date of yours in my own game. I concur that this could be a data-related error, nothing in the code. In the meantime, you can do a small effort and avoid abusing recruiting too many corps, beyond your supposed force pool. It is not game-breaking.

In many games, some personal house rules are sometimes required in order to have a better challenge anyway.

Let the Philippes dedicate on EAW's release deadline and then we can bug them together for a Gold version of PON with more features and bug fixes.

Thank you very much Pocus for the reply and you too Kensai. So, if it's not code related, then I think I can try to solve it the prblem is that i have no idea as to where to look for this, but I'll try anyway and yes before I solve it I'll keep limiting building these 3 families of corps as I have been doing since I found out the "little bug", I always try my best to have a good and historical challenge, so I understand about "personal house rules" to have a better challenge ;) and no, it's not game-breaking so I'll adapt myself.

I can hardly wait to see EAW's released :D and later a Gold version of PON :w00t:

You play in the 1.04 patch, so that's mayne the reason why you can't reproduce it. :)
