You save file (.hst) has a size of 0 bites. This issue is related to UAC or AV preventing AJE to write a file.

You can relaoad your first backup file (follow instructions ingame MainMenu/Options/Load)

I had the same issue - all was normal, (I actually finished my first campaing), then error message, CTD, and after a reload a save didn't appeare in the load screen. I cheked the save - it have some 0-size files. A strange part is that ican't even revert to the previous turn - the game doesn't appeare on load list. All other saves is wriiten as normal' so I'm not so sure it is an antivirus issue.

You can restore manually a turn by moving content of backup1 into upper level folder.

Thank you. But is there any ideas why the save got corrupted in the first place? I mean - is it my computer's fault or some known bug or something?

as Boh. wrote, most common are any Antivirus software and User Account Control (UAC) from Microsoft Windows.

It can also happen if a crash to desktop comes out of nowhere (in all Ageod games, like casued from DirectX, problems with the window mode, problems with hot graphic cards, last but not least bugs and hickups in the code etc) and the files are written during turn processing, but not ended/saved properly.
as you have the backup file, 90% chance to simply restore by the way they describe it.

while testing fromMay to September i had exactly two crash to desktop situations and to restore one time. most problems seem to be related to the windows system/the AV software :indien:
...not paid by AGEOD.
however, prone to throw them into disarray.

These difficulties accumulate and produce a friction which no man can imagine exactly who has not seen War . . . in War, through the influence of an infinity of petty circumstances, which cannot properly be described on paper, things disappoint us, and we fall short of the mark.‘
