Red Provinces?

Wed Dec 31, 2014 9:35 pm

Hi guys,

Newbie here, enjoying this game massively during my Xmas holidays...

I've been reading the manual cover to cover and search the forums here but can't find out the answer to this: when I click on any of my leaders, pretty often 1 or more provinces nearby will be colored red (see picture where the Roman consul stack is selected). I cannot find out what this red color means, and I have no map filter selected. Anyone knows?

The red happens because you are in a region with an enemy controlled fortress. What it indicates are regions which you will not be able to move into, what might be called a zone of control limitation in other games.

Yes, see in page 29 of the manual.

Excerpt:
Regions that a selected Force cannot enter due to a blocking Zone of Control are indicated in Red on the game map

ZOC in AGE games in general is the result of various factors, not only military control (namely, patrol and evade values of forces, fortification levels, size and composition of your force, etc.). For example a relatively small stack of units with high evade values (specially cavalry) may not suffer the effects of such "ZOC"

Regards. Glad you are enjoying the game

Duh! I can't see this manual straight anymore...

Makes sense, although I should have saved the game at that point because I thought I was allowed to move into these regions, I remember it was showing how many days it would take when I was dragging the stack marker on them, it didn't say blocked or unallowed... Ah well, I'll pay more attention next time.

Thanks!

That is right. It will show your move as you plot it and let you plot it, but unless you have a special force such as Franciscus suggests, it will not move when you execute the turn.
