How to put an effectively an army into garrison for a future siege ?

Thu Aug 21, 2014 12:29 am

Hi everyone. Everything is in the title. As an happy holder of AJE since a year I have yet to discover how I can put an army into a citadel in preparation to a siege. What happens to me every time is that even if I put the army into the city (the army then disappear from the map unless I select it) this army will engage the enemy when he comes and lose most of its forces before the siege could happen.

Can I do anything to prevent it and ensure the army will stay in the city and keep all of its forces to defend the city in a future assault ?

Interesting question, I am not certain why this is happening. What is the posture your army is holding? Are you blue in the offensive and orange in the defensive? And have you selected Sortie?
If you are inside the city or fort or citadel, in blue, orange, you must remain in the city.
I bit more explanation might help in figuring this out.

If your army is inside the city it will not come out to fight the enemy.
Maybe the combat you see is because the enemy has actually assaulted the city without doing a previous siege.

If the city has no walls or only level 1 walls it can be assaulted inmediatelly. Also, there are some leaders (Caesar is the most noticeable one) that have a special ability that allow him to assault inmediately any city without need to breach the walls, no matter if the walls are level 2 or more.

Regards!

Ho I see. A city with level 1 walls can now be immediately assaulted. I did not knew it. The French manual says a city must have a number of breach equal to its level of walls to be assaulted (page 49). I suppose it changed with patch.

My army was in defensive posture and normal rule in defense/retreat. So it is not suppose to engage the enemy and follow normal combat rule. Sortie not selected. I place the army placed precociously in the city of Nisibis (wall level 1 in the Trajan scenari). And the city was assaulted by Trajan himself who has not the special capacity to ignore walls defense like Caesar or Sulla.

Thanks both of you for the replies. I see I must rethink my strategy for this scenari as the Parthian Regnum.
