Graduating from the Apprentice to the Journeyman stage

Sun Dec 23, 2012 5:01 pm

Now that I seem to have my stability issues taken care of, I'm going through my second round of the scenarios and really think that I've graduated to the Journeyman stage. Indeed, to my mind the game just keeps getting better and better. One thing I've learned is to frequently check the Imperator and SPQR options to see if anything new has popped up and see what you can use to bolster your cause. In a way it seems like the proverbial 'war by other means'. ;) Also, to my mind it seems like a good idea to use your political points on reforms/SPQR and such rather than let them pile up. I guess I have been improving though, as the first time I tried playing Marius I got creamed, and this time around it's the end of the first year and my faction morale is a full 40 points greater than Sulla's. :w00t: I would add though that the game threw a serious curve ball at me in that the Pontics of all people have landed in Africa and are besieging Utica. I'm not stressing too much about it though, because the contest is lost and won in Italy. Of course that kind of attitude led to Rome's fall. ;)

It's also interesting to note that I've been taking care to read most of the events, and I actually learned something. I honestly did not know that Caesar was a nephew of Marius. Interesting. This game is educational as well as fun.

Anyway, now that I'm trying to master the finer points of the game, two things still bother me a bit. I know some of you recommend setting up supply depots, but to my mind the supply is better kept with your mobile armies, rather than in cities where they can be captured. Also, can't fleets help out with the supply of besieged coastal cities? If so, I have no idea how to do this.

I would also add that with the six great scenarios available in AJE and more on the way, the last thing on my gaming radar scope is Rome Total War 2. With a gem like AJE, I feel like I've grown out of my Total War stage. ;)

I also wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and happy New Year. Or should I say Feast of Satunalia??? :D In any event I don't work in corporate America, so I'm not afraid to say Merry Christmas. :mdr:

Huh, I experienced same thing in release version. It is highly unrealistic to see Pontics landing in Africa. I thought this was fixed in 1.01.

Nope, in the release version Pontics were fixated with Sicily. After 1.01 they are fixated with Tunis. Hope they fix this in the next patch.
