there is much more in game than experience...
do you know any other game from AGEOD? it commonly works that way:
for different technologies and qualities of troops you have different models with different stats in their games. it is used to simulate the large gap between them, discipline, cohesion, attack quality...
on the otherside you can TRAIN this models to a higher degree (militia to a normal unit in AACW), they loose experience thereby but get better stats
finally, the experience makes them even more valuable
...not paid by AGEOD.
however, prone to throw them into disarray.
