Help me pick a campaign

Tue May 13, 2014 5:10 pm

I've got every campaign and I've played BOR a number of times but not much of the original game.

I've got experience with AGEOD. It's honestly hard to choose, but what makes it really hard is choosing a scenario and then choosing a side

I prefer long campaigns, but recently I have taken a liking to short ones. Campaigns on a large scale are what I'm trying to come to grips with, it's fine in AACW and CWII bc I know a heckuva lot about that topic. In addition I know the geography of the Roman Empire quite well but it's.....different. Hard to explain.

Anyway please help me pick a campaign I've got all the AJE ones, NO BOR CAMPAIGNS.

Thanks!

Well I bought AJE maybe a year or year and half ago. I played every single scenario against the AI and played all sides, except the Caesar-Pompey scenario. IMO, every scenario is good. And it was fun playing against the AI-which amazed me.

I started with the shortest scenario. Played the scenario three times, each time picking one of the factions. And then moved to the next longest scenario. And slowly worked my way through every scenario except the Caesar-Pompey scenario. Some scenario factions are a real challenge even against the AI but with experience, I think all are winnable from any side against the AI.

I know there were some scenario factions I wouldn't recommend playing against a human in PBEM within tweaking the scenario or giving the weakest side to the most experienced player.

Have fun!

I appreciate it!

I suppose one scenario in particular I'm interested in is Year of the four Emperors.

Any tips for each faction?

I tried Vitellius but I dont have any idea what to do

As Vitellius, you need to grab Rome as fast as you can. If against the AI, and you get lucky and win Macer, it'll be really easy transporting the African troops to Rome. You will face a strong rebellion in Britain, and a really strong (spreading) rebellion in Germania/Gaul. I think it's best to abandon Britannia completely, because you need those legions in Gaul to stop the rebels. Most of the Gallic and German garrisons will be needed against Vespasianus. I think that the scenario doesn't work really well against the AI, because especially the Vespasian AI seems really slow in attacking Italy. In PBEM it's a really good one, although Otho is the odd man out.
