Playing AJE as hotseat game?

Fri Nov 01, 2013 3:10 pm

Hello

How do you go about playing AJE in "hotseat" mode where you play both sides? I want to do some "experiments" giving orders on one side orders on the other.

Can I turn any current game vs the AI in to a "hotseat" game where I can control both sides?

I don't know how you can turn an AI game into a hotseat game.
Since this is WEGO, there is not really a hotseat mode, but you can easily play both sides by just:
- starting a new scenario
- selecting one side
- saving your orders (don't click on process turn but just on the save icon instead)
- going back to the main menu, loading the same game but this time the other side
- making your orders
- with that side end the turn
- next turn make orders with the already loaded side
- switch back to the other side again
- make orders and end turn
etc. etc.

It's really not as complicated as it looks, although of course a way to just jump to the next side after making orders automatically would be great.

You can turn OFF (and ON) the AI in all Ageod games (or change it's settings) anytime during an ongoing game.
Just go to options, AI, turn it OFF and continue, issuing orders to both sides

Ah nice, I didn't know that worked. Although you still need to go to the main menu after playing one side, ending a turn with one side played just means the other one has no orders.

As bob says, you just have to go to the load game menu and load the game as the other side (there is a button on the top right corner to show all the sides on a game). After you have issued orders to both sides (or three in three sides scenarios) just process the turn as any side.

Regarding Franciscus advice about the AI, beware because in many AJE scenarios there are several minor AI only factions (barbarians, pirates...). If you turn off the AI i think they will not do anything. :bonk:
Really i think there is no need to turn off the AI to play both sides. The AI won't give orders to any side you have already gave orders, so there is no problem having the AI on. (at least i have never noticed problems with it on PBEM games).

Yes, arsan is 100% right, you do not need to turn OFF the AI

Thanks for the correction

OK thanks. I got that working.

Next question. How do I set things up so that I can watch the outcome of one turn, then reload the orders for that same turn, change the orders of one (or both sides) then replay that same turn with the new orders?

open the directory with your saved games - you'll see the previous turns in sub-directories.

delete all the files in the root directory and copy all the files from save#1 (ie last turn). That will mean you have reverted to the previous turn and order set. You can then adjust those orders to suit.
AJE The Hero, The Traitor and The Barbarian
PoN Manufacturing Italy; A clear bright sun
RoP The Mightiest Empires Fall
WIA Burning down the Houses; Wars in America; The Tea Wars

You can also go back one (or more turns) in game. It does just what loki100 explains, but easier. The game automates all the file erasing and folder copying
In the load menu, put the mouse over the game you want to revert a turn back and hit the Home key. The tooltip over the game on the load menu should explain the different options you have (delete, revert back, change name)
