Replacements and red numbers

From what I understand the red number on top the replacement chit is how many of those units have been lost. Do I need to purchase the same number of replacements as the red number? E.g., if the red number says 123!!! Do I need to purchase 123 replacements?

123 hits. Each replacement repairs 10 hits (on average), so you need to purchase (at least) 13 replacement chits.
