From Adrian Goldworthy's Book on Caesar, published by Yale, he says it's possible Caesar was, as he was a military tribune at the time and he's not mentioned being sent abroad. Generally that meant someone was kept in Italy, and if Caesar was in Italy at the time of the 3rd Servile War likely he participated. Goldworthy speculates that Caesar probably didn't do anything spectacular like he did in other wars since his name doesn't come up, but he probably didn't fail spectacularly either since it's never brought up by his opponents.
