Unlockig Units?

Sat Oct 27, 2012 8:06 pm

Great game- having lots of fun, especially as the crashes seem to have calmed.

The pressing question is how do I unlock the legions in the 4 emperors scenario? The Jewish revolt is taking longer to crush and I need those layabouts!

Have sent my leader to their region and town and still not unlocked.

In 4 Emperors Scenarion, you must use a option (F5 ?) to unlock these legions. Beware, there is a national morale requirement.

IIRC the pop-up window in the beginning (at least in the release version) claims that to unlock the Danubian legions as Vespasianus you need to take him there. That's confusing, as apparently the only way is indeed to use the options.

Even more confusing, in my scenario the legions unlocked themselves after Vitellius annexed Otho

Thanks guys for reply. Yes, the pop-up confused me. I'll play it again using the options early on. Will get morale up with games etc.

Thanks again, I really want to win as Vespasian before I move onto larger scenario. First Ageod game. I bought pride of nations but not played more than messing with early after release.

Right, I shall crush them now- starting with the Jewish revolt !!

From my playthrough it seemed that pretty much the only possibility of getting your NM to the required level was to beat the Judeans completely (gives a huge NM boost!). Unless you manage to do something extraordinary, like take Rome or constantly beat Roman opponents, both of which are quite unlikely because of the Jews and the Parthians. You really need the Danubian legions to achieve things in the West, and even then you should leave some troops to garrison the Danube.

Ok, good tips thanks. Played through to end once now. Yes the Parthian threat kept surfacing. The Jews took longer than I wanted- to end game and still they were lingering after taking Jeruselem. I got distracted by some Eastern guy that decided he was Jewish and brought his army to harass my rear.

Feel confident I can get a win by freeing the Danube legions early and attriting the Jews more quickly.

That is WAD, when Otho faction ends the Danubian legions "choose" definitely Vespasianus, ie, they get activated

It's also historical when vittelious was declared emperor the danubian legions, supposedly starting with the third gallica, refused to take a oath of loyalty to him declaring for vespasianus who finally[supposedly reluctantly]accepted.

Following on this subject (Locked Units), how come when you build a unit in an area it becomes restricted to that area? Some do and some don't!!

which units? do you have a screenshot?

- as long the units are under construction ALL units are locked

- if you accidentally merged the units under construction with units which are locked by the original setup of the troops of a scenario, the new units will remain locked until you create a new stack wit them

- few units like additional supply stores are permanently fixed, same rule, if attached to them, your units are fixed too.

- militia units are not totally restricted, but they are extremely slow to prevent players to use them as field troop
...not paid by AGEOD.
however, prone to throw them into disarray.

These difficulties accumulate and produce a friction which no man can imagine exactly who has not seen War . . . in War, through the influence of an infinity of petty circumstances, which cannot properly be described on paper, things disappoint us, and we fall short of the mark.‘

I'll check and see if their status changes after they are built. The merging I ran into and had a hard time figuring out what happened!!!
