Is it even possible to win Macer's troops through the event?

I've tried it three or four times now with mostly Vespasianus and once with Vitellius, yet every time one of the two AI factions has gotten Africa. Have I just been unlucky, or does the AI always win?

unlucky i fear. A player can win, but as it depends on ALL involved factions decision, its one of the most complicated events and tests

if you want to understand HOW complicated and how many different outcomes, look for the event folder,

however, prone to throw them into disarray.

These difficulties accumulate and produce a friction which no man can imagine exactly who has not seen War . . . in War, through the influence of an infinity of petty circumstances, which cannot properly be described on paper, things disappoint us, and we fall short of the mark.‘

I managed to luck out as Vitellius and win over the African provinces ONCE. About 99% of the time they seem to go over to Vespasian.

Funny, the only time I've seen Vespasianus get them was the only time when I wasn't playing as him (had to abandon a few starts as Vespasianus).
