Oh, but you can ask for a backup DVD copy of the game for any version, even the cheapest one... There is an extra fee for that but you are not forced to take a proconsul version to have it...

Only a couple of days to go and I think this sums up my level of patience with waiting any longer...

Curious if there was a certain time it was being released on the 19th? Very keen to play straight away but being in Australia wanted to know if I can play it on the 19th or 20th because of timezones. Thanks,

This will be probably the 19th, GMT time, so for you perhaps late in the day, but not the 20th

If I was to buy the pro-consul version I`d have to pay over 400 dollars for it, only because I live in the UK. As much as I like AGEOD's games and have a great amount of respect towards the company, I can not agree with that kind of pricing policy and will try to buy AJE on some sale in a few years :( .

a misunderstanding, maybe? first, it would be £250.00 tax incl for the most expensive one (to avoid confusion 2hundred50 pounds for UK)

you can get the game for less than 20 pounds/euro/dollars as the completely normal version, as it would be in any department store.
afterwards you would need to buy in every potential scenario pack for additional money.

the pro-consul version is a kind of offer to players, to express their special appreciation and support to the game...

*********************
main advantage:

PROCONSUL EDITION

AJE Pronconsul Edition is for people that really want to send the message to the world, that the AJE team and Ageod, producing those detailed historical strategy games, should continue and expand in the future and thus need our support! You also get the following 7 bonuses, in addition to your digital copy of the game:

* Be part of the decision process to select which expansion pack or DLC will go next in production
* An extra digital and DVD backed-up copy of the game for a buddy of yours (add the additional address when you order).
* 'Proconsul' Icon (A Patrician head) added underneath your name in the forum
* Your portrait in-game, added as a Roman leader (you can ask to be a Pontic general or a barbarian too!), appearing in at least a scenario! Send us your source photo by mail
* Get your name in the credit section of the game, as soon as the first patch is released (or on Day 1 if you pre-order the game!), plus your name added immediately in the AJE credits forum thread.
* All future expansion packs or single-scenario release for AJE for free, including Birth of Rome expansion pack for free, upon its release (ETA Spring 2013)
* A backup DVD of the game, sent to your physical address, with handwritten thanks from the team.
* On the backup DVD a special edition of the manual signed by the team, plus the original maps (full bmp format) of the game (normal and winter), a smaller PDF map, and a special map showing the game’s region by terrain types.

so you see, additionally to the emotional value, we talk about

a.) all future expansion, paid IN ADVANCE but you dont know how many and when
b.) the two backup dvds
c.) the normal game itself
...not paid by AGEOD.
however, prone to throw them into disarray.

‘Everything is very simple in War, but the simplest thing is difficult. These difficulties accumulate and produce a friction which no man can imagine exactly who has not seen War . . . in War, through the influence of an infinity of petty circumstances, which cannot properly be described on paper, things disappoint us, and we fall short of the mark.‘

You can support us quite simply Sathariel (if you believe AJE is a good game) by buying the standard version. Don't wait for the bargain bin though, first it can be some time before it goes there and second the dice will be cast on our fate since quite some time at this stage (meaning the success or failure of a game is determined by how it sells in the first few months, not one year after its release).

Bargain bin promotions are mostly interesting for digital platforms that will attract (may I say lure?) people in buying games they will often not play in the end. But for a development studio, sells incoming one year after the release of their product is too late to influence positively they survival (not saying that Ageod is doing bad right now, we are quite positive on the future on the contrary) :)

I probably didn't make myself clear enough, sorry for that. My post was a result of disappointment with a pricing policy, that values euros, dollars and pounds the same (since in all of them the basic version costs 20 of the respective currency units). As a result people in the UK (including myself) have to pay for games more than people in the US or the continental Europe (as pound is the strongest of these 3 currencies). I used the proconsul version as an example to show how big the difference is (person in the US can buy it for 250$, while I`d have to pay the equivalent of over 400$). Anyway, just find it unfair, but there we go: life's not fair either.

Having said that I realize the same policy is very common amongst all the companies, and as much as I dislike it, if I was to boycott each and every single title falling under it, I`d be playing minesweeper and not much more. Plus since my strong will is virtually non-existent, I've already pre-ordered the game on Gamersgate first thing in the morning, before I even checked the forums here. So there you go, I've got a moral hungover now and it's your fault only :p .

I may not have time to actually play it, but I'll preorder later today just to support the game engine.

I'm very pleased that you have added a physical copy for this game. To me it's worth the added fee. I hope that you will add this option to older titles.

Paypal fails my order with a invalid combination of address, zip code.

I do have a Paypal account and it fails the same way whether I use that option or enter my credit card directly.

The Paypal account, with no changes, worked as recently as May.

Help!

Will the DVD be mailed to a U.S. address from the U.S. or will it be shipped from overseas?
Thanks.

Willgamer please contact "Philippe Thibaut" <pthibaut@ageod.net> to clear up the issue.

Stormbringer, this will be shipped from France. I don't know if it goes by airmail or surface ship, you can ask the same person on that, he will do the sending.

I'm trying to place an order and I don't have a Paypal account. I don't want to open a Paypal account and I don't see a way to buy with a credit card only. Is there a way to buy this game using a credit card alone?
Thanks for any help.

I figured out how to order. I was confused by the pay with Paypal message and since I didn't have an account with them I didn't click on continue. Finally I did and discovered that I could use my credit card with out having an account with them.
