World Trade Entity

Tue Jul 09, 2013 10:32 pm

In another thread, Sir Garnet suggested a script to give Italy more merchants in order to create world global trade (needed to develop world economy, particularly minor nations).

I am wondering wether it is possible to create a "world trade entity" that would do that globally, i.e., buy and sell products, instead of putting this burden on the player. I am thinking to modify one country (maybe small) and give it money and merchants everywhere and permanent global trade orders (buy and sell) for all products. The amount of products to be bought / sell could be fixed or evolve with time.

I am not sure how this could affect price fluctuation, it is possible that we will need to change something on that too (establish bottom and top prices for all products, if this can be done).

If the game engine supports this idea, it would require some major scripting, of course, but I think it would be a big help to the economic system.

Thoughts? Is it possible? Or should I just "forget it"?

There is a minimum price for things (it's 2). I don't know of a maximum price, but haven't seen any above 30 that I can remember.

I don't know that the AI would keep ships in all the MTBs. The player knows to, but I don't know that the AI does that (I believe they concentrate their shipping to get the best deal on stuff they need). Also, the AI tends to build up and dump. They build up to a certain stock level, then dump all their excess on the market.

You could try a script to create locked AI merchants in the various MTBs. But then you have to get it to buy and sell. I don't believe it will be easy.
