Some bugs in the Drang Campaign

Thu Feb 10, 2011 11:24 pm

Don't worry SEPRUS, this is not another thread with me complaining about the AI in the Drang Campaign. ;)

I tried this campaign for a second time and inspite of a weaker AI it was a lot of fun. It seems however that as far as bug fixing goes the Drang Campaign is a step behind the GC.

Here are some issues I came across:

1) Some political options don't work a second time (same issue as with the GC until patch 1.02):
- Decree Partial Mobilization
- Arms to Ukraine

2) It is impossible to fulfill the conditions for New Balt division raised since you can't built the Balt engineer replacement you need to trigger the event.

3) Some events have undefined strings: See attached pics:

4) The event evt_nam_GER_PetrogradControlled2 seems completly screwed up. It fired multiple times. The first time as you can see in the pic before I actually had any troops in Petrograd.

5) Air combat message: After air combat the message you get is so long that you can only read the hits your airplanes have taken but not how many the enemy has suffered. This is of course a general problem and not limited to the Drang Campaign.

6) Appoint Kronprinz political option is bugged. The option itself works fine, but the Kronprinz doesn't spawn.

I think the error is that the wrong unit alias is used in the event.
SelectFaction = $GER
StartEvent = evt_nam_GER_Kronprinz_Check|999|0|NULL|NULL|NULL|NULL

Conditions
CheckOption = $gmaOptionPol;GER_Kronprinz;=;1
EvalEngagementPts = >=;5

Actions
ChgFacEngagementPts = -5
ChangeFacMorale = 5
ChgVPCount = -50

SelectFaction = $GER
SelectRegion = $Germany
CreateGroup
Posture = $Defensive
SetKind = $Land
Entranch = 0
InCS = 1
FixType = 0
SetName = Kronprinz
Apply
CreateUnit
SetType = $uni_GER_Kronprinz3
SetName = Kronprinz
Apply

SelectFaction = $RED
GenTextMsg = opt_notify_CMN_Kronprinz;1;NULL;NULL;NULL

SelectFaction = $GER
GenTextMsg = opt_notify_GER_Kronprinz;1;NULL;NULL;NULL
ChangeActorPool = $gmaOptionPol;MaxUse;0;SubType;GER_Kronprinz

EndEvent
It should be uni_GER_Kronprinz.

7) Requisition and conscription options: As you might have noticed by now, I was playing as German. I was able to requisition money but never got the possibility to conscript. Is this on purpose?

8) Balance: As a result the German runs low on conscripts very fast. Building new units is a luxery he cannot afford. I crushed the Red by late September 1919. At that time I had run up 120.000 casulties versus almost 300.000 Reds. I had an increasingly hard time to replenish my troops. If I would have played a human opponent, a second year in this campaign would have been very uncomfortable.

9) AI: In case you ever should decide to work on it. Otherwise simply ignore this part. :)
- AI has problems to extract troops from dangerous situations (low supply, superior enemy). It is the old problem with Athena sometimes becoming inactive after a bad battle or in face of a strong defensive position. Several times I was able to crush forces that would have retreated in the GC with its AI scripts.
- AI failed to bring its Siberian troops to the front. The Siberian Army under Sievers and a second brought by option from the far east, simply stayed put during the whole game. This allowed me to punch a huge hole in the Russian front. By late august there were no Red troops left south of Pskov and north of Voronezh.
- AI had problems to prioritize: while I was marching on Moskow it was unwilling to shift troops away from the fronts in the North and South to meet this deadly threat.

Keep up the good work! Hopefully, you will find the time to fix some of these issues in a future patch. :)

The Drang Campaign is certainly worth it. It is AGE gaming on steroids. :D I had the biggest and bloodiest battle I have ever encountered in an AGE game. A Russian army was completly encircled and half a million men fought a series of battles over two weeks before it was completely crushed. :evilgrin:

I share our Mexican friend's feelings about this scenario. If anything, this is more fun than the campaign game. There's nothing like a huge months-long struggle between giant armies on a vast scale, with air power, tanks, hundreds or thousands of tubes of artillery, etc.

I'd love to play a PBEM of this.

Next stop, June 22, 1941, same map...as soon as we can get aircraft that are a little more frightening.

Depends on how you define victory.
