Polish conscripts and militia upgrade to regular infantry?

Fri Dec 13, 2013 2:25 am

Still learning with the Polish-Russian war scenario but I have switched sides to the Poles now. Looking at the polish conscripts and militia, I am wondering which makes most sense to build initially. Militia has poorer off/def fire, initiative and cohesion but better assault/discipline. Also it appears 2 elements of militia is equivalent to 1 element of conscripts/regulars in terms of filling up divisions. In general, I think I would build conscripts vs militia due to the cohesion values. However I am wondering what is the experience upgrade sequence for conscripts and militia. With experience, will both conscripts and militia upgrade to regular infantry?

If both upgrade to regular infantry, militia may be the better value vs conscript infantry because militia is cheaper in dollars and men than conscripts.

So with experience, will both conscripts and militia upgrade directly to regular infantry?

No, experience will not upgrade them. To upgrade you need to have an officer with the training trait. The officer needs to remain with the conscript/militia to be trained in the same region without moving for a turn, and then he will automatically train two elements. (And it notifies you of this in the turn notes.) Elements of militia will be upgraded to conscript after a round of training, and conscripts will be upgraded to regulars.
