Finnish Civil War Winnable as the Reds?

Sun Dec 05, 2010 12:36 am

Has anyone managed to win the Finnish Civil War scenario as the Reds? If so, how? The best i seem to be able to do is hold on to the two main Finnish strategic cities and therefore prevent them from winning. This earns me a "stalemate". I suppose I could combine all my troops into one army, in Helsinki say, abandoning Vipuri, so that i have a big enough force to smash the Finns in one battle and then clean up the board. I find you can build a pretty big army out of Red Guards, well equipped with Artillery, but you can't afford to divide it as the combined Finnish-German Army is also quite big and dangerous. If the layout of the map were different, say more canalised, it would be easier to keep contact with the enemy "hold onto him by the nose and kick him in the ass", but by having so many railways i am afraid to move off after one stack only for it or another to sneakily dash in and capture Helsinki. The Finns can use the railways so effectively because, the Reds being tied to Helsinki, can't afford detachments to go wreck or reclaim them.

Humph.
