Some thoughts from a first-time AGEOD gamer

Sat Dec 04, 2010 3:47 pm

Having played the game for a while, I thought I'd create a thread here to show some recognition, provide some simple feedback and perhaps some ideas, I doubt would be added, but one can always dream.

Just on a starters note, I'd like to point out that this is the first game I've ever played based on the AGEOD engine, thus it was quite a journey for me in the beginning. But I think I'm starting to 'get' it.
The game itself is great, loved the different period and amount of detail put into the game, though learning how to play properly can be quite hard for a complete beginner like me.
While I enjoy the smaller scenarios available, like the Finnish Civil War, I honestly hope there could be more of them, as they are much simpler and easier to get into and playing till the end.
In fact, that is a general wish for me, being able to play something smaller than what we can in the Grand Campaign. While I love the split between the Siberian and Southern Whites, the amount of micromanagement and individual orders that have to be done with the Reds at the start, and eventually with both White factions, is somewhat overwhelming to me.
If you could play as something like the Black Army under Makhno, it would, for me, be a much greater introduction to the Grand Campaign, and serve as a good training ground with the much bigger scenario. Having a different goal than simply taking over Russia, would also be interesting.

It might just be me personally, but I've always had a problem handling the bigger nations in games straight from the beginning, and I highly prefer the smaller scale. At least until I master the game.
Looking at the other AGEOD games, two factions seem to be the norm, so maybe I'm just not the most ideal AGEOD gamer?

Apart from that, I should just point out that the game is great, loads of fun, but also very unforgiving. I mean that in a completely positive way.
Good work on the AI as well, who seems to have more skill than me so far.
The logistics system is great, and the strategic value of railroads definitely adds some depth to the game.
Keep up the good work and lets hope this game becomes a success, aye?

Thanks first. You're right, there could be much smaller scenarios. But, as usual, the sheer volume of data to put in place, especially for the Great Campaign, is just to high to lspare time needed to work on more smaller scenarios.

If all goes well, ie not much fix work on bugs, we could indeed introduce new ones in the next months. :)
