I didn't, I just made a playlist out of privateEccles videos. You will have to ask him. Some of those a capella songs are amazing. Specially the Don Cossack songs.

These two are my favourites.

Thank you so much for sharing! I love Russian a capella stuff and military marches, these are all great.

Indeed they are all great.

Is this the hohenfriedberger melody they are singing to? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZBQCniRDCE&feature=autoplay&list=PL207232A7E3340E2B&lf=mh_lolz&playnext=9

I created a similar playlist for those who play the Poles in the Polish-Soviet War. The first song is one of the earliest known recordings of the Polish national anthem (recorded ca. 1905; the oldest is from 1901, but the quality is understandably low), the rest are actual songs popular among Polish troops at that time. Some were popular among the Polish Legions in WWI, others gained popularity during the war of 1919-1920.

Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD75AA9AC37BDF913

Most recordings are from the 1930s, though for some of the songs I could find no decent version (I don't like military orchestras' versions, they tend to loose much of their flavour).

The second song is one of my favourites. The lyrics are about a guy who joins the army because a girl refused to love him. I made a quick translation of some of the more popular stanzas here, in case you're interested. "Bayonet will sting me, the death will kiss me, but not you". It's a marching song of the Polish Legions, based on some folk tune and immensely popular among all Polish formations of the PSW, so there's dozens of additional stanzas.

If you're really into classical military marches, there's a playlist for that too (from song #11 to #27, the rest are not really related).

BTW, an interesting trivia. On their way to the shooting of the Battle of Warsaw 1920 (a recent Polish blockbuster) a group of reenactors started singing. Someone recorded that, here's the link. This is how all those songs must have sounded like in reality, during the war :)

Cheers

That is all very good music from Whites and Poles thanks :)
I especially liked 'O mój Rozmarynie' which reminds me Mieczysław Fogg's tango tunes of 'Ostatnia niedziela'
