If you have specific suggestions as to what the AI player could do better, we'd love to hear it :)

Ther was a bug in RED AI or IceMarch which have been solved for the next patch.

Finnish Reds are the weakest faction of the game: terrible leaders, their best units removed during game. The real question is How much time RED AI has ressited to the Finnish forces? In reality war was over in May 1918. So how much time to reduce Red Finnish ?

Now of course, there are always things to do for improving AI. Working on it. :)

I find the AI to be suprisingly good (remembering it is, after all, just an AI). Of course, once the AI is too easy, that is why we have PBEM, which, when I get a bit more time, I will actually try on this game I think!

The AI is absolutely outstanding. For a long time I didn't notice it at all. That means I did not notice it was computer AI (which usually act dumb). This is probably the biggest compliment one can get about an AI.

As far as I can see this AI follows some very simply principles, which taken together form a very good "poor mans" strategy, even if they were to be employed by a human player.

1. it defends every foot of soil: good, because the player has a lot to do
2. it moves units a lot, and to unexpected places: good, because chance encounters that result can surprise the human player
3. it counterattacks with large stacks - and often with great success - very good, because this is something most AIs are completely incapable of!

Most AIs are only strong on the defensive, but take for example this successful counteroffensive the AI made against me ( it even made use of Trotskis outstanding abilities ), with desastrous losses for my division:

I also shows that my initial strategy to bypass Tsaritsin on the Don was very risky, and I paid for it. All in all I must have lost about 5000 men, about 50% of my overall losses so far. But I still think it could have worked had I moved a really good general, another division with artillery, and built a depot.

How about making some AAR.s for us who don't have time to play, sounds like those AAR.s could be really exciting to read.

My vote is for some Finnish Civil war AAR.s.

Thanks.

I hope to achive AI optimization for all scenarios next week. I've just fixed a bug preventing AI to use Requisitions. I'm going to get back to scenarios.

Currently, AI is a almost achieved state for the GC. Finland and Poland scenarios are among the most advanced but some supplementary work s needed. Ice March had a bug now fixed, but I haven't done nothing for White AI ( very dfficult task moreover). November 18 scenario AI opimization exists but is yet subpar. May 19 scenario and Drang aren't ready.

Finnish civil war from another side (red) is clearly more challenging. I was able to hold Tampere, Turku and Helsinki long time with strong main army and I was expecting easy win when something happened. I was waiting direct attack against my main army but whites went east, took Viipuri and crushed eventually my army near Helsinki.

I had to play this game quite fast because lack of time, but I have to try again and be more carefull this time :) Perhaps those bugs in red AI made my previous games too easy.

I think that in my previous games AI was fighting some quite hopeless battles and consuming its troops for nothing. Also retreating and combining troops together to reform stronger army may be weakness for it. If you win main army of AI once, it may divide troops to smaller units which are easy to destroy one by one?

Great game anyway...

Athena (AGE AI nickname ;) ) may change her plan, not always, not as fast than an human, but she definitly knows how to vary her paths of progression.

Thanks for the report anyway. Currently, I 'm like a fireman running from fire to fire, that's why reports are very useful , it helps to point out main diffculties in AI behaviour. :)

I just barely played through the tutorials and the Finnish campaign, but it's really great. The map and the graphics overall are probably the best ever in Ageod's history so far. I think they give a true feeling about the period.

What's more, as I had/have only a superficial knowledge about RCW, now I just bought Orlando Fige's "A People's tragedy", as per the game devs recommendations - a great book, in more than one sense of the word ;) .

That's what I love in Ageod, they make games that entertain me a lot, they teach me History and they feed my "other" addiction" - reading about History.

Thanks :coeurs: :coeurs:

I agree... totally! Very well said... :)
