Help with supplies

Sun Jul 08, 2012 5:07 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum so hope this is the right place to post this.

I'm a big AGEOD game fan (played AACW, NC, PoN and most recently RoP). I'm posting here because RoP is the latest one I'm stuck on.

Despite playing all these great AGEOD games, my secret shame is that I have never been able to figure out how to manage supplying my armies. I have a rough idea and usually get by by town-hopping or moving supply wagons back and forth to resupply a besieging army (I've also gathered that building a supply depot one region back from the siege also seems to work, usually...)

Now my problem in RoP is with the Russians. I took Koenigsberg and had to watch my Russian army melt away in a matter of 3 turns (almost none left) due to lack of supply. I assumed that by camping in Koenigsberg until the end of winter would protect my troops, I guess not. I have a supply depot built one region back and have military control over all regions east except polish regions. What is going on? I should point out that St Petersburg is besieged by Prussian troops, though after three months of winter there's hardly any left (crazy AI).

So without going into how supplying works I would like to know how I can manage this situation.

Any help would be appreciated.

Incidentally I've never been able to take California as the South in AACW for the same reasons (I know this is the wrong forum but if anybody has a quick answer for me...)

It is very likely that St Petersburg being besieged is the cause of your problem.

Normally, you do not need to do anything except take Koenigsberg. It has enough intrinsic supply to take care of your armies. Do you control Memel? This might be the other issue.

Send a fast cavalry force, your Cossacks, back to relieve the siege of St Petersburg. See if this helps. Also, if you do not own Memel, take it. Memel by itself should be able to supply your army.

As CSA, are you attacking California from Arizona with a unit possessing a supply wagon?

OK thanks for the tip. I did have both Koenigsberg and Memel. I guess the Prussians outside St Petersburg were the issue. Too late for this game all I have left are 1 division of infantry and four of cossacks cowering in a depot outside Kolberg (can't move back because of prussian force outside Danzig, which I don't control, and no way to move forward and lay siege, oh yeah in a desperate gamble I made a run for Danzig mid-winter, finished off whatever was left, never mind 150k+ frenchmen converging on Stettin should do the trick). Anyhoo, will remember in future, but I still have a problem with my pitiful Russians getting above minimum supply, despite being in a depot two regions from Danzig (I thought the poles provided supplies to every one). And yes the siege of St Petersburg has been lifted (thanks to General Winter). So shouldn't I be getting supplies to my tiny force?

About California I usually try it with a division and up to three supply wagons (gave-up trying with more). I usually move from the South-west box. Wagons are empty by the time I get there and then my army dissolves if I try to retreat.

In the new update, Poland is not good for supplies, in my play. I take Memel, Koenigsberg and establish supply in the last region of East Prussia and the first region of West Prussia. this usually takes care of my Russians. Which is a way of saying, I do not think your forces are getting supply.

Try sending forces without wagons to California. I usually play as Union, so have only once tried this CSA move. I sent a Leader with a cavalry and infantry, they made it.
