corps composition

Tue Jan 31, 2012 6:29 pm

So I am an AGEOD’s ACW vet who just picked up RoP with a few questions regarding Army/Corps Org as I am playing my 1st scenario:
1) Is it better to group units into bigger corps under the better generals (looking at the Invasion of Saxony Scenario’s it looks like the entire main Prussian army could be put into about 2 corps), or have more Corps with fewer brigades? Is there a recommended corps configuration like 2 inf brigades1cav/arty support? Or something
2) Related—what is the frontage unit in RoP? In ACW it was the division—is it the brigade or the Corps now?
3) Cavalry—I was looking at Putting a Cavalry Brigade w/ the Heavy Cav in each Inf Corps for the Assault effect and leaving the Medium and Light Cav in its own corps to better use its Speed? I figure this should give my Inf Corps the punch for a pursuit.
4) Also related—if a Cav Corps is in the same region as a supply wagon, but the wagon is not in its stack—can it still draw from that wagon?
5) Artillery—is there a “recommended” amount per unit/corps? I know it ACW it was 4-6 elements per division with some more in Corps reserve. I gather in RoP all Arty should be in corps reserve.
6) What is the effect of “Guards” do they function like elite units in ACW giving a bonus to the entire unit—thereby I should spread them out? Or should they be grouped together into more powerful brigades?

Thanks-- also posted this over in paradox
