Some very strange links

Sat May 01, 2010 8:31 pm

In addition to the strange behaviour at retreats, there are some very strange links around the Rhine.

I currently have a (small) force in Limburg (north of Mainz, right bank of the Rhine). Those are the forces that crssed the Rhine now 7 times retreating, and they are finally more or less on the good side (I interrupted them retreating again across the Rhine, have fought in this region). I want them retreating to Dortmund.

There is a bridge across the river north of them, to Hermanstein. Then they can go north one region more, to Aldenberg. This is along the road. Then they can turn north-east, through Swartenberg. Next region is Dortmund. Takes total of 44 days - 9 to Hermanstein, 8 to Aldenberg, 12 to Swartenberg, then they wont go from Swartenberg to Dortmund, but go first north west to Dusseldorf (8 days) , and then fly over Swartenberg to Dortmund (7 days). This is if I do it by hand.

If I just drop them on Dortmund, they take the following route:
Cross the Rhine (they need to swim) to Koblenz (enemy occupied btw), Andernach (left bank of the Rhine), Koln, cross the Rhine again (swimming) to Dusseldorf, and then to Dortmund. Total 31 days.

Hm, ok, something strange is going on - after replacing the stack several times for this report, they now behave as expected. The route is as I tried to do at start, and the travel time is now down to a resonable 37 days for the 100 kilometer.

Lesson is to look what your troops are planning to do, and keep trying?
