The event chain *should* work as follows:
a test from early 1852 that Russia is at peace with France, GBR and Turkey
Russia gets the Crimean Crisis diplomatic option.
Turkey can refuse or cede
if it cedes, Russia becomes very unpopular
If it refuses, Russia gets a CB, this should then escalate to a war that will bring in GBR and France, Italy is given a CB vs Russia
The war is hardcoded to end in 4 years.
Related is the Principalities crisis, this strips out Russian defensive treaties with Austria and Germany and gives Austria a CB vs Russia.
What the patch has done is to correct a test for the Principalities event (before it was testing for French not Russian troops), but the Crimean War as such is not hard wired. If you really want that in your game, look for event "evt_nam_TUR_CrimeanCrisis1853_Step1_IA" and make that fire ... basically that will force AI controlled Russia, Turkey, France and GBR into war (any that are player controlled get a CB instead).
There is a larger problem about the AI and diplomacy which Christophe has discussed at length in the mod sub-forum. The ideal is some sort of fixed goals and a clean up of ongoing wars every now and then. At the moment, the best solution as the player is to script in white peaces if you see one of these endless struggles that neither side can gain from.
but about Crimea, keen to see any reports from ongoing games, I've seen the Ottoman decline version being reported but no one yet has reported a war, so it maybe something that can be usefully tweaked.
