More leaders? McNaughton's mod?

Wed Dec 24, 2014 8:51 pm

I am enjoying this game more than ever, with the new patch. So immersive and exciting.

I seem to recall that McNaughton put a great deal of work into a mod that would put far more leaders in the game.
The need for more leaders is very apparent, especially once the wars begin, and more leaders would add so much more to the game.

Does anyone know what became of this mod, and whether it could be added to the game in a patch?

I think you're actually thinking of my mod.

It's pretty well abandoned, due to other commitments and especially my frustration with the difficulties and complexities of modding the AGEOD db. I love AGEOD 's games, and greatly appreciate all the work both Phils and others do on them.

I don't want to be a complainer, but the db system is so cumbersome and difficult to deal with that it's really, really frustrating to do any major modding.

I've done an enormous amount of modding in many games and systems, in fact I've recently gotten a part time job with another gaming company as a result of mods I'd done for their games, and I've never dealt with a db structure that's as finicky and just plain frustrating as AGEOD's.

Sorry for the rant :( My apologies. It's just quite discouraging that I had to abandon the project, since I've put a ton of time and effort into the leaders mod and really, really love PON.

I could send the raw files to you or anyone else who was interested, but it'd take some work on your part to get them working correctly in game.

Hi Lukasburger.Actually, I was thinking of Mcanughtons mod, which he posted about in the early days, but it seems it was never finished.

I was very aware of your mod, and quite excited about it. I appreciate the time and effort you put into it, and understand completely why it was not finished. I had no real idea of how difficult it is to mod this game. I appreciate your offer about the files, but you are a thousand times more able than I to do this, as I lack all modding skills. Perhaps someone far more skilled than I might be interested in your generous offer.

Anyway, I thank you for what you have done, and salute you as a fellow devotee of PON.

Thanks.

I was really looking forward to McNaughton's mod as well. Didn't realize he was planning to add more leaders, which is why I figured you meant my mod.

His mod would've been awesome, especially given all the other cool stuff he had planned. It would've been a thousand times better than my mod. It's really too bad it was never finished :(

If there is a mod with additional leaders, one leader, for sure, needs to be added. I worked with McNaughton on the original leaders list. Somehow, in one of the iterations, Charles Gordon fell off the list of GBR leaders. Gordon of Khartoum needs to be in PoN.

I agree completely. Gordon must appear!

I think he's actually part of the Egyptian forces. I'm not 100% sure but I think I saw him once leading an Egyptian stack. It may have been in the 1880 scenario but it was so long ago I'm not sure.
