Tips for my first attempt at Italian Unification

Fri Apr 12, 2013 4:42 pm

I'm giving this a shot right now its late 1851 and I am trying to have good relations with france and all the Italian states. However I am not quite sure what the Italian Unification decisions I can place on the capitals do exactly and which Italian states I should be using them on. Do those decisions just raise relations?

Can anyone give me some advice on how to achieve unification? I'm still quite new to the game in general so this is my first real attempt. I think SP is really a good nation to use because it is giving me the opportunity to experience industrializing whereas playing as Belgium lets you start as a power that is economically damn near perfect so there isnt much to do until you can change your projection of power value.

Oh also I was wondering how I can change the government attributes, particularly projection of power, I would like to be able to colonize. Is it an event? Is there any way I can make it happen?

Loki100 did an excellent AAR on the subject. You can find it here

well what can I say ...

suggest you also look at Powloon's S-P AAR as we used different routes. I relied on the default 1860s method - for which you need to play the unification cards fairly often, Powloon did it using the 1859 chain by invading S Italy once Garibaldi started. Neither of us saw an Austrian DOW so the Piombieres pact doesn't particularly help - but this will give you a defensive pact with France in any case.

National attibutes are fixed, Italy/S-Ps will change when V Emmanuele dies and Umberto takes over. You'll get the full range of colonial options once you unify but you can do some progress with missionaries and merchants.
