Question about reviewing the outcome of a turn

Thu Apr 04, 2013 4:47 pm

Sometimes when the dust of battle has settled following a particularly active turn I will find myself looking at a unit wondering, "What the hell is he doing all the way over there?"

Anybody have pointers on the best way to review what happened? Things like, "I ordered you to attack Atalanta, but you seem to be marching north to relieve Richmond."

simplest is to use the turn replay function and track the units you are interested in. In the main units will follow the movement track you set unless they intersect with an enemy unit but the AGE system allows the AI some leeway in path finding
AJE The Hero, The Traitor and The Barbarian
PoN Manufacturing Italy; A clear bright sun
RoP The Mightiest Empires Fall
WIA Burning down the Houses; Wars in America; The Tea Wars

OK. I will check that out this evening . (I am in EST.) I haven't tried the replay -- I assumed it was for replaying an entire game.

By and large , as I come to a better understanding of the system I am beginning to see the why's and wherefores, but as I mentioned, in one or two cases I have been puzzled. These may very well have been cases of user error as I am still getting used to things. For example, I might want to move a unit to occupy a region and defeat the enemy unit presently occupying it. To do so I drag my unit over the enemy unit. But the enemy unit in the region heads off in another direction. By positioning my unit over the enemy I have ordered it to intercept the enemy, so my unit will not occupy the target region, but instead follow the enemy. If the enemy moves by rail I might find myself marching off on a wild goose chase.

There are subtleties in the command options that i haven't yet gone into, as I am still figuring out the broad strokes.

And of course the AI is making use of functions that I am still learning about, such as water movement and forced marches, so I frequently find that situations can change quite quickly. Which adds to the fun! But sometimes leaves me scratching my head.
