Questions Before Starting

Sun Apr 22, 2012 8:45 pm

Hello, i am playing tutorials at the moment and soon i will start to a grand campaign, but i have some questions.

1) Which country should i start with? I want to play as Prussia or Turkey a lot but i guess these can be difficult for a beginner, eh? Maybe Japan is a good choice. Isolated from everything. Or Russia, if i don't play aggressive, who will bother me? What do you think?

2) The biggest problem for me is performance. I am having 3-12 FPS, depends mapmodes and tabs. I don't wanna make you tell all things that are written here and there to improve performance, i will just tell the things i tried: Unchecking "Limit Map Loading", running the game in administrator mode, switching OFF Vsynch, lowering multisampling level, switching D3D9FullScreen level to 1. The first two ones helped a bit, but others did not. The only thing i don't try is lowering resolution, but i don't want this. Is there anything else left to increase game performance? Turn times are not important, but slowness is annoying. 12 FPS is sure enough to play a turn based game, but i would not mind a few more FPS :)

3) How much is Turkey playable? Are there historical events?

Thanks in advance :)

1) Whatever country you choose will be fun.
Prussia is a great choice. My recommendation France or Austria, in addition to Prussia. All small enough to be manageable but large enough to have a global reach. Japan is certainly ok to play, but you should start in the European heartland of the game. Non-European you do not get to experience colonialization as fully.
2) Performance is most likely a machine issue, not a game issue. Are you all patched up? Running in admin mode is essential. It is a 'big' game, so takes longer than other to execute.
3) Turkey is playable with events. Not a real option for new players, really challenging.

My thoughts. Hopefully others will join in and disagree.

Hi, thanks for suggestions :) I guess i will start with Prussia. I patched 1.02 but not 1.02b, because of another thread about increase on military upkeep. Should i patch to 1.02b? My system is AMD Athlon II™ X4 620 2.61 Ghz 3600 Mhz, 4 GB DDR2 800 Mhz, ATI HD4650 1024 Mb, 1440x900 resolution, Windows 7 Home Premium. Isn't this enough to play the game without lag? Also i close all programs that can effect the game, like anti-virus etc.

1.02b is patching different issues, a problem within the diplomatic system and another mainly, the "who takes over the province"-bug
but its giving you new problems.

just for getting into the game 1.02 shall be enough.

speed has barely anything to do with your computer. i played the game with 1,8Ghz, 128mb old Nvidia and 2GB ram, having 3min turns in the beginning and up to 14min after 1900.
its about the program itself, the speed of the HDD and how often you let it write-rewrite backups of the game.
...not paid by AGEOD.
however, prone to throw them into disarray.

‘Everything is very simple in War, but the simplest thing is difficult. These difficulties accumulate and produce a friction which no man can imagine exactly who has not seen War . . . in War, through the influence of an infinity of petty circumstances, which cannot properly be described on paper, things disappoint us, and we fall short of the mark.‘

you should use 1.02 not 1.02b, the loyality Bug is a big problem after 3-4 years of playing, you can not build units in many regions.
