UI became very unresponsive

Wed Feb 22, 2012 11:58 pm

I have been alt-tabbing out of PoN to read the manual, check the forums, etc... After about 12 turns (but several hours of running), the UI became so unresponsive that I had to shut down PoN and restart it. I would click on buttons and the window would not open.

I saw people mention that they alt-tab out since turn resolutions take a while, so I figured it would be ok for me to do so. Are there any known memory leaks from alt-tabbing, or after the game has been running for several hours? I'm not sure what caused the slow down.

Thanks,
Rob

No leaks I know about.

Could be my imagination, but the game seemed to become much more responsive after I opened up the saves folder and deleted the saves of games I wasn't playing. Before I did that I couldn't even open the Load section.

Once I restarted it was ok. The Load Game screen does take a long time though when there are 20 save game files though.

I'm constantly alt tabbing without any issue since weeks of playing PON. Just be careful to UNcheck the option about the processor going into sleepy mode if out of focus (-> Options -> System -> UNcheck Sleepy mode). Otherwise it can take super long before the game "come" back from sleepy mode - I suppose all data have to be reloaded like when you start the game...

Indeed, this is a known issue, coming from the fact that in order to display a particular save game, the engine looks into the file to get a few informations... And the whole add up. Sorry for this.
