The unit purchase system in PoN?

Tue May 24, 2011 9:26 pm

This may have been reviewed in some developer diary but I haven't seen it.

How does the unit formation/purchase work in this game compared to other AGE system games? Is it close to the one in AACW? AACW is the only AGE game I own so I cannot compare with newer games in this series.

Can you for instant directly recruit to units stationed in the middle of the jungle?

I should add that I really liked the way you separated new units from reinforcements in AACW, it also looked nice with the small "chits" you added. I hope it is something similar.

Take a look at some of screen shots, it is not said explicitly, but it looks just like the ROP/RUS system in terms of unit purchasing, that is drag and drop the unit on the place on which it is to be raised, which can only be done in certain places. So you can't form troops in the middle of the jungle, but if you want colonial troops, you must have a colonial city that fulfills the requirements. The same system of drag and drop seems to be in place for buildings.
And as for replacements, it seems to be the same as AACW/RUS (thankfully, I really don't like ROPs way of doing it.)

EDIT: I just remembered, the manual is out, so you can look it up there too!

Hehe, forgot all about the manual ;) . Thanks.

Well, one reason I haven't looked very deep is that I want to spoil as little as possible. I will take a chance with the demo but only to look around a bit and see if my tiny brain can even grasp this behemoth of a game.

This is the ROP recruitment system for new units combined to the AACW replacement system. RUS uses these systems too.

So no Englishmen recruited in the deep of the jungle. And no replacements for them too there.
