Great to hear that you enjoy PB.

I agree about the combat system but then I was always partial to good diplomatic systems. From what I read in the EiA forums, they got the Diplomatic aspects right in the PC version. I hope this game "borrows" the best of the diplomacy from PB and implements a better combat system as you said.

I think it's important to make the game accessible while remaining deep (EiA failed a bit on that part I hear). If AGEOD gets all these parts right then it could easily become the best sales success for AGEOD.

We shall do our best, it is true that diplomacy shall be at least one of the core(s) of that game.... :indien:

I had to register for this game and show my support! :cwboy:

I love AACW although maybe I didn't get into it as much as I would like to, since it focuses mostly on warfare. But VGN appears to be a whole new beast.

Can't wait!

I would of course like to see historical results and wars, such as the USA/Mexico conflict, which basically sets the US on the road to manifest destiny, as well as wars such as the crimea.

I would NOT like to see all out 'world war' untill the 20th century, such wars were not part of the 19th century, where in Europe wars tended to be of limited scope and time.

I would like to be able to hold and influence a 'Congress of Europe' to dictate to lesser powers, and have this cause resentment in them, making them want revenge.

No nation was able to dominate all the others at once, there should be some way to prevent any single nation from world domination, colonial domination could be possible, but not home countries.

I want to play the major german state of this era:Prussia.Leading that state to become 1871 the German Empire.Parallel building and developing a colonial empire like the later one together with building a strong army and a small versatile navy and a very good and strong economy with further developing after 1871.I want to play historically as akind of Bismarckian politician.Fighting first Denmark for getting Schleswig and Holstein until 1864 then getting northern Germany after battling the Austrians until 1866.After that inviting the daring French for War battling about the Alsace.Parallel getting Luxemburg. After founding the German Empire I want develop a still stronger economy,a better army and a bigger navy and even a greater colonial empire. That are my intentions if I get my hands on a well programmed "Vainglory of Nations"It should be possible for me to play either historical as ahistoric. For example conquering Belgium and getting Bohemia and Moravia from Austria after a decisive victory. Then developing a greater colonial empire like getting Congo Territories additional to the historical german colonies.I want to make a very strong German Empire with Treaties between Russia and Great Britain and me.Above all Russia and a decent influence sphere in the Middle East and in Africa.
That my intentions and now I am waiting for the game fulfilling my hopes.I will be in a gamers heaven if it comes true... :siffle:

I would find that suggestion and others I have seen here VERY interesting, but I question whether trying to incorporate all of the historical developments of the VGN period around the globe isn't leading the game development into a sort of unmanageable colossus, like one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. That could take 12 years to develop and a single copy might cost $12,000 (in today's currency terms) and require 125 GB of HD space. By that time, the AGEOD team would have had to "go on the dole," with their families living in substandard housing in a Bohemian garrett (spelling?). Not a pleasant prospect.

Nothing wrong in having dreams for how one's perfect dream-VGN would be :)

I don't even see Hohenlohe's game as that unrealistic; compare to Paradoxc' Victoria, and that's a game that easily could unfold there, and I have high & realistic hopes that VGN will surpass ol' Vicky by far :)

It would also be good if seapower plays it's proper role.

No power could project itself accross the world without seapower, but seapower was and remains expensive.

Even the young USA spent very little of it's economy on naval power, unless it was actily at war (Civil war) until the 1890s.

Britain maintained it's huge fleets, and France a respectable one, but the other powers didn't have much until the second half of the 19th century.

I would also like to see iron warships recieve their proper respect, they were dominent for decades until Steel was perfected.

Just discussing what the game title would sound like in French...Vainglory of Nation is barely translatable in correct French without sounding clumsy :king:

Why not change it to something like 'Destiny of the great powers' or some such title which is what, Destin des grandes puissances in French, no?

Why not indeed...or any other things, but the name must be eye-candy and catchy...and to the point with the era/thema covered...difficult task :indien:

Vainglory, although a wonderful world, may have many people reaching for the dictionary.

What about Birth of Empire?

Many an empire was already there, at least for the British and French (which transformed into a republic during the period what's more).

As the period in question leads to the catastrophe of WW1, what about Roads to War or Fall of Empires?

In that case, how about 'The age of Imperialism' or 'L'âge de l'impérialisme' since that is what the era from 1850-1914 is usually called.

The era saw the formation of nation states (Germany, Italy, Balkans) and the building of global Empires:
"Nations and Empires"

Many European nations (most notably England and Germany) found themselves destined to lead the world into a better, glorious future:
"Destiny of Empire"
"Destiny of Glory"
"Providence of Glory"

Why not make a poll using all the sugestions, and give the winner of the naming a credit in the game and a copy of it?
