Various questions about supplies, ground movement and transport

Sat Jul 05, 2014 6:48 pm

Hi

Playing as Prussia, I received by event an exploring unit on Boffa, a jungle region in Africa. After several turns, the unit has run out of supplies, so it is starting lose its streng, ppl are dying. How can I bring supplies to it? In the adjacent sea region there's a naval unit which has transport capacity, but I think she can't bring supplies, only unit, is it right? Do I need bring a carriage or is there a way to bring them by navy?
Finally, why I can't move this ground unit in the adjacent ground zones to explore them?
I attached a screen

Thanks, Dani

Yes, you need to bring in supplies from Prussia. A cart or better two. Africa is rather unforgiving for exploration thus you need to construct a depot in your first colonial settlement (this will consume the two needed carts). After that make sure you have merchant ships in the chain of MTBs connecting the North Sea MTB up to that coast of Africa MTB. Once done, this will push supplies to that depot from the homeland. A small port could help in the creation of some supplies as well.

Good luck!

To expand on Kensai's sayings. You need to control the region to build a depot, and have some troops guarding it (otherwise the natives might destroy it). The ships have supply, but they can't give to the land unit. If You want the land you to get supplies from them, have the land unit join the fleet (if the ships have enough transport capacity, the unit will join). The ships will then share supplies with the land unit.

As to how to use the explorer, you use a decision card to explore regions either containing or adjacent to the explorer unit. Note that the explorer must stay adjacent to the location of the card, or it disappears.
Remember - The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Thank guys

I have transported the unit in Namibia, coz it looks like to be the only region who have stocked some supplies in Africa, and I'm contructing a depot there. After I will send a merchant fleet in the relative MTB, in order to have a constant flow of supplies and start do develop the region.
I'm only in 1854, so I still don't have colonia cards, I will use this time to create a strong hub in Namibia.

You will have to build a harbour too in Namibia in order to recieve supplies from Prusia, but with small units like explorers if you build a mision or a trade post (basic colonial decisions, I don't know if you have them now) there would be enough supplies. Ports, depots, etc are if you want to have a more serious military presence there, like colonial brigades.

aye, agree, the small colonial buildings - missions etc - will give you enough supply for a brigade, maybe a division, so as you explore plonk them down and you'll be ok as long as you don't start moving European style armies around

for my main hub (capital of region or "invadingL port) i using port+depot+fort (depending on agresivity of natives and/or chance of war with europen powers here) +colonial buildings.
Building of port+depot is very simple - to maximize ease of moving supplies there + helping of distributing of supplies to units outside this prov.
forts - realy simple - to remove need of having there garrison troops which protect it from attacks. as bonus you dont pay for maininetance of these troops, dont take them from pool of troops so they can be used somewhere else and fort generate some supply too, so it makes standing of more troops in africa even easier.
for exploring i using "combined groupL of explorers+colonial (light) brigade + 2xsupply train to ensure that explores are not sitting duck to natives and supply train ensures they dont run out of supply fast.
and as bonus i have here cavalary division stationed as "fire troops" to eliminate any natives which are foolish enought to attack me.
and for exploring i build every 3 provs apart depot (so there is space of 2 provs between depots) - to make sure my troops are supplied, not only actual explores but punishment troops if needed too.
