Britain vs the OFS

Wed Mar 19, 2014 5:30 pm

Another stupid question:

Playing as Great Britain in the Scramble for Africa scenario, I got a CB against the OFS after they grabbed Kimberley.

I quickly defeated them, invaded their entire country and basically sat there 'in occupation' for a year without being able to claim Kimberley as the war winner. Only when did the WS reach 90 was I allowed to take Kimberley and end the war.

Is this normal? Seems very strange to me and very ahistorical.

Any thoughts?

PON uses warscore to determine winners and losers of wars. Normally, to claim any territory, you must have the warscore to be able to afford it. The more important the area, the higher the warscore needed. So this seems to be the normal pattern.
Remember - The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Thanks for that, and for your welcome on the other thread.

That's kinda what I figured, but I guess I expected the loss of their capital (and the defeat of all their armies) to be enough!

I assume that, in the Boer War of 1899-1902 (or however it plays out), one can annex the whole country? I am still in 1884 - great game, but so much to learn.

loss of capital wrecks their NM, so that helps a lot in finishing them off and may well trigger internal revolts, but its not a war ending event. As you've found, you need to sit on your gains for some time before the warscore moves up to what you need.

I recall reading that you can't finish off the Boers before a certain date - I think this is to ensure the full event chain can happen, so yes, you should be able to annex after the second Boer war

Well, when you easily defeat africa country it can look annoing that you cant annex them instantly as was done in history, but since game doenst differ between minor developed states it is something you must live with, if defeating of all armies + occpying capital will be enough....imagine annexing whole prussia as frogs, just after 1 year of war and some luck.
This game dosnt differentate between minor/major developed states, only between developed and tribal .
Well mayby in pon gold/pon 2 will have modifiers to warscore needed based on continents they are based on.
