setting taxes

Sat Aug 17, 2013 11:15 am

Does anyone know an alternative way, besides the F4 screen, to alter taxes?

Ever since the most recent patch/fix I've found that all the screens that access and alter the economy have loaded very slowly (and am not sure if this is patch related or just that I am now into the 1890s). However, I can't adjust the tax sliders no matter how long I try to take over it so was looking for a different option, such as:

  • a command using the ~
  • a script (but I can't find any text in the wiki or the other decision files I can adjust); or,
  • where to look in the save game/order files to make the changes there

Yeah the F4 screen and all its functions has some really bad lag now in the most recent beta patch. Changing how much of your stocks to sell to your people takes a good 5-10 seconds per click now, which means it can take over half an hour real time to get everything up to 80%. I deleted and re-installed back to 1.03. I usually always play the beta patches to help test them, but it was simply too much to try and deal with the lag issues.

I must be one of the lucky ones. I have not experienced those issues.

I had some initial lag with the B screen. But that seems to have cured itself somehow.

The F8 button lags for me if I use the screen icon rather than the key.

More RAM made a big difference, more so in game and screen load times than the clicking issue, but there is still a few seconds of reaction time/lag in F4 mainly before the change is processed. My tip is to do a long single click rather than the usual fractional-second click. For setting taxes, just click at around the final level you want. For the rest of F4, just wait until you see a reaction before clicking again.

It may help to think of the F4 UI as a 19th century mechanical marvel of gears, levers, wheels, and ratchets that needs to "whirr-thunk" its way into place with each command.

I've got a pretty new (less than 1 year) high end system with 16 GB RAM, so it wasn't a help at all for me with the lag issues.

This worked thanks, not ideal as you really can't test out options but I've solved my immediate problem. For trade I now use the B screen for an idea (eg where there are goods I want) and do the buying using the T screen (which seems to be lag free).
