ineffective treaties?

Tue Feb 07, 2012 2:30 pm

[posting here, too, maybe someone can explain]

In our MP game, I have experienced the following:

In the last two turns, I have - again - agreed on mutual supply with France and Portugal.

However, the treaty is not in force (not shown on the diplo screen neither at France nor at Russia and I cannot enter French ports), and prior (!) to conclusion, I receive a message that mutual supply expired.

A pic is attached:

I don't know if it is a bug or not.

Should you need the game file, I can upload it.

Considering my recent problems trying to cancel a give supply rights to Argentina (as Japan) I believe there is a series of bugs in the diplomacy system. Moreover, I found out that I get a GUI error trying to select my commercial agreement with Annam, since when I made it Annam had one province which was later absorbed by the French...

Philippe² (both Philippes :p ) if you need our .hst and .trn files we can upload. I play the same MP as nemethand.

Also... I've noticed yet another bug. I cancel 3 treaties and all my 6 diplomats vanish! Why?! :bonk:

(it seems that if you select many of the ongoing treaties and then deselect some of them, you get in the next turn normally cancelled what you indeed cancelled, but it charges you even for those that you had simply selected-deselected)

The diplomacy panel has certainly some bugs if many treaties are on the table!

I have never been able to see all my treaties listed on screen. Also I see: " Treaty.... <>"

Perhaps, if the Phillipes two  could tear themselves away from other projects this whole diplomacy bug might be fixed.

I feel that diplomacy is the most important aspect in our MP game.

We are totally under with the other project, but to start with, it is absolutely vital to have a saved game with the bug in order to check it out and reproduce...we can't do anything without it :(

These are all in the Conflict in Europe game - which you should have access to, if not PM me and I can add you to the share.

The two problems I have with diplomacy are:
You can't see all of the entry on the F9 screen - near the bottom of the list are three treaties but you can't see who there are with
Only the first few treaties will fit into the screen - the 15th one hangs off the bottom where the text can't be read, and there is no way to scroll to the ones off the bottom - the USA in our game has 36 treaties, so presumably has 22 that he can't cancel.

Suggestions:
Use flags instead of country names, or at least put the full details in the mouseover.
Show only treaties with the selected nation, and add the full list to the mouseover for the big flags (same as on the small flags, but you don't see your own nations in the list).

Philippe,

totally understood about the new project, which I am buying anyway since it will be quite unique Clausewitz with AGEOD input, but there are some minor things in Pride of Nations that need to be fixed.

We won't die without them, we can almost always enforce actions with events, but it not elegant. PoN is already a gem, why not polish it to show its full glory? :hat:

This is very true. The amount of time and work you guys must have put in developing the game... It would be a shame if these relatively easy-to-fix UI changes don't get fixed. I had a glance at the code myself, and I figured it would be possible to increase the amount of treaties to 20 by placing them to the right(I'll try to test this soon) but a sroll bar or indeed only showing treaties by nation would be MUCH more practical, yet hard to find out how to do as there is no modding documentation on the UI.

By the way, here are the saved files for Russia, Portugal, and Japan... I send you the turns just before Early July when we get the new diplomats.

Try to repeat some of the actions mentioned above.

Thanks for that, Kensai.

Just to clarify, there are several different issues: (i) diplomatic treaties not firing / becoming effective; (ii) exploit of diplomats when cancelling treaties; and (iii) the diplo screen not showing properly all the effective treaties.

(i) and (ii), if really being a bug, can seriously hinder the game experience.
