Allies not so cooperative?

Mon Aug 29, 2011 5:33 pm

Playing as Russia: I did not provoke the holy land event and have stayed allied with Austria. It is now about 1863.

Problem. In dealing with the many minor revolts and the larger Polish insurrection, the Austrians have come to my aid. However, when it is time to give land back, they often keep it. Additionally, in one native Russian area I retained military control but Austria kept control of two (badly needed) mineral mines -- very odd, the Russian flag flies over the city, but little Austrian flags show the mines are owned by Austria.

Is this WAD, or am I seeing an anomoly?

The French flag also flies over allied Ottoman regions recovered from rebels - though Ottoman Military Control is 100%. I don't know what happens if the alliance is broken.

I don't think this is as intended.

I tend to agree it is not as intended. Especially so since one receives a message at the end of the turn to the affect that -- due to your alliance, Austria is returning X-blank-X to your control.

What this did do the turn I took it over from rebels was let me build a "military base" (i.e., much needed depot) in Aleppo.

I observed similar happenings in another thread. Doesn't even have to be an ally, just a 3rd party at war with the same enemy. Although, in your case, being allied is probably what led to them not getting the town as well as the mines.

I saw this from the other side. Playing as Prussia, when the Polish insurruction broke out, I moved two armies to Warsaw and the province next to it to crush the inserruction (and to make a quick landgrab!). I got military control (as Prussia) and of the city, but can't make any changes to the infrastructure or anything. Also the provinces do not show up in the ledger found in F6. Russian forces still come and go as they please but never seem to contest military control.

2 further things. I was not allied to the Russians and yet in similiar circumstances in France, when I removed rebel forces from a province, my forces were 'teleported' to my nearest province. Also for the Prussians, there is an event which fires called something 'Alvensleben declaration' when the Polish insurruction breaks out, but I don't know what it is and what its effects are (no text showed up when event fired - I hope that it has something to do with the inserruction...)

i had the same problems with Austria walking around in northern Germany and remember that this issue was discussed broadly and extended to the 3rd party-problem fighting rebels...

i guess, Devs shall know about this problem.

At OFFWORLDER:

the Alvenslebensche Konvention of 1863 was a formal military cooperation to fight riots in the polish uprises.

it stated complete acceptance of the integrity of the borders and the ownership of the provinces while allowing the opposing troops to hunt the Polish even at the other side of the border...

so, if it is programmed right, you are kind of allied with the Russians (like a treaty of defense)

Yes. But come to think of it, I think I marched the Prussian Army prior to the Convention event firing, so basically the problem I encountered might have been brought about by my speed in reacting to the Polish insurruction (just had the armies ready to march into Austria in reality!) and anticipated the event...

as i said, this problem with the control of regions was broadly discussed, already before "patch i" and in different places.

as you said, whoever is first in the province gets it...

I remember someone who described that he cant get rid Austrian Armies in Berlin, even when their alliance was broken, thats what i would call a problem ;)

i had the same problem even with the Cherokee in the ACW, but after peace / CSA defeats i got all provinces back.

**********

For the event of the Konvention , just take it as an additionally information, for you asked what it might be about
