OK trying an MP game what gives?

Sat Jul 09, 2011 12:49 pm

Still amazes me that AGEOD with their record in excellence for details still can't seem to put together basic MP options.
Can someone explain the best way for a LAN group to play PON. Our group was very surprised that we are still using PBEM for these games. Is there a faster way to enjoy these programs rather than playing with (like any game) a lame AI?
I have heard about dropbox how (in detail if you have the time :) ) one would use this to exchange files.
Is there another way on a LAN. Could I set up some sort of file sharing on the LAN we have setup?

Thanks guys......

One would think a game with a campaign scenario this long (more than a thousand turns) would take a while to play multiplayer. By a while, I mean one or two years.

Yep. And I've played games of WitP/WitPAE for years and games of COGEE for years. Quite fun in a MP environment.

My son has been deployed in Afghanistan for 5 months now and we've been playing WITP-AE 3-4 hours a day on average (With some long breaks while he's in the field)
We're aiming to finish the war before he returns :)

Is it not possible sir to share a file folder together with the other LAN machines? We are all in the same room. Would that not be faster than dropbox?

Yes I understand that. That is not what I am asking. Within in say Windows 7 can one not set up file transfers to each other via the LAN/network via windows using no third party dropbox? Would that not be faster?

I would think it would be possible.
Just share the saves directory.

Here are the directions I got:
For example, in this case, I am the host of the game... I copy all the eight .trn files to the DropBox (like Pocus commented) and each player takes his own .trn file.
When they finish giving their orders, they copy and paste the .ord file generated (their orders file) to the DropBox again.
When I see all the new seven .ord files in there, I host the new turn (I do not need to wait for my .ord file ) and copy the new .trn files to the DropBox for the next turn...

So, I'm no computer expert but you should be able to share the saved game folders and copy the .ord and .trn files around.

This is a very different request than the typical LAN/TCPIP question. This is just about controlling where files are saved. It's a great question.

I looked at the settings files and I didn't see an option to change where the Saves directory is located. I think the issue right now MIGHT be that the Saves directory is always looked for in the same spot, which is under the game directory.

I have to admit this would be a nice option for a group on the same network and it probably is a relatively simple thing.

We've been running for the last week with only a few issues.
Let me know if there are any questions and we'll share our experience.
