CTD Help needed

Sun Jun 19, 2011 2:06 pm

Can't seem to get past the first 2-3 years. The game will crash and then won't even allow loading a saved game or resuming game. Anybody have this and get it fixed?

I'm running the 1.01f patch and before I had little CTD's fairly regular and now I just get the big one and I'm done. The first couple times I just started a new game, figuring I had learned enough new stuff since starting to merit a re-start anyway. Now I'm not so willing as I've spent a lot of time and would like to play the last 68 years of the campaign.

Thanks for any help.

At first look into the !main.log.txt in the logs directory. You will obviously find an entry in the end of the file. Carefully read an error or crash event. You will probably get a hint of further files (ScriptReport.txt for example.) Then I would copy an older backup to start over. In my games it allways worked.

The last 3 lines of the main log are:

7:41:46 AM [Critical ] UAgeZip.ExtractFromZip None or more than one extracted file
7:41:46 AM [Critical ] UAgeZip.ExtractFromZip None or more than one extracted file
7:41:46 AM [Critical ] UAgeZip.ExtractFromZip None or more than one extracted file

What does this mean?

Looks to me like you got a corrupted zip file.
I'd try downloading the patch again and re-installing.
But I'm no expert...

Look in the game at options->media. Uncheck the compress turn point.

OK. Unchecked. Still crashes when I click the load saved game tab. Do I need to change to an earlier file or something? If so, which files do I change, remove?

In the saves directory you only have to copy the files from one of the backup directories. backup1 is one turn before, backup2 two turns and so forth.I think only 24 backups are hold at max. After another turn, the backup24 will be deleted, the other renamed (23 to 24, 22 to 23) and the files of the actual turn are kept in backup1.

Had to work, always interferes with my gaming.

Switched out the files and no change in the result. So, I'll just start a new one, maybe it will work, if not I'll have to shleve it for awhile. That sucks because I really like the game.

Thanks for the help. I'll copy the main log right away next time and maybe find the trigger.

I'm having the same problem - repeatedly (so much so that its putting me off the game!)

The save files still exist but somehow the game doesn't read them - frankly I never encountered this problem in any Ageod game before.

Noticed something else - when one tries to circumvent this problem by starting the task master, the task master indicates the game not as PON but as AGE - kind of weird.

So has anyone found a foolproof workaround for this problem?

All the AGEod games use the same common AGE game engine though the executable is renamed to the individual game.

Did you by chance override the default installation path to add .../Program Files/... ? If so... Don't do that. AND you will need to uninstall/reinstall to get rid of the issue. If you went thru STEAM you're on your own.

I installed the last patch as per instructions and nothing more. Have I done something wrong?

Just a thought, in what directory did you install?
And what version of windows?

Hi again. I installed it as per sticky post above. I do have Windows 7 so maybe that is the problem?
